Metro North riders will soon be required to activate their train tickets before boarding or face an eight dollar surcharge. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the change, effective in 2026, is aimed at stopping fare evasion tied to mobile ticket use. Tickets bought through the TrainTime app must be activated before boarding, not once on the train.
