Newtown Approves 67 Apartments With Traffic Limits Added

Newtown planners signed off on 67 new apartments at Routes 25 and 6, but only after adding rules to stop drivers from cutting through Hillcrest Drive. The project includes 21 affordable units and replaces a former ale house site that burned down in 2022. A gate will go up on Hillcrest and a curb will force right turns onto Route 6. The plan passed 4–1, with some commissioners blasting the state’s housing law for pushing developments into spots they say don’t fit the neighborhood.
