Newtown’s Planning and Zoning Commission has approved a plan for a country store at Ferris Acres, the 160-year-old family farm known for its ice cream. The small store will be run by fifth- and sixth-generation Ferris family members and will operate during off-peak hours to avoid parking issues tied to the popular creamery. The store, to be located in the farm’s milk house, isn’t expected to open until next year. The family also agreed to shore up a rock wall near Route 302 to improve safety for children visiting the farm.
