A Newtown woman has been sentenced for a 2023 incident in which she shot her husband and engaged in a standoff with police while her children were inside the home. 35 year old Meghan Gouveia pleaded guilty under the Alford doctrine to second-degree assault with a firearm and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. Her husband survived the shooting, and police took her into custody after hours of negotiations. Gouveia’s sentence includes 10 years behind bars, suspended after two, followed by five years of probation.
