In southeastern Turkey, residents of one town say they were involuntarily high for days after police burned over 20 tons of confiscated cannabis in the town center. The burn filled the air with thick smoke, reportedly causing dizziness, nausea, and hallucinations. Locals say they had to keep windows shut and avoid going outside. Authorities had stacked the bags to spell out the town’s name before setting them ablaze—something critics called tone-deaf. Officials there are now being urged to destroy drugs in sealed facilities with filtered chimneys.
