A Newtown 7th-grade student took home the first place prize in Connecticut’s Spelling Bee Championship. Hayden Hughes bested 46 other students who participated in the state competition that was held in West Hartford. Hughes will now move on to represent Connecticut in the 2024 National Spelling Bee which will be held in Port Washington, Maryland beginning on May 26.
