Danbury May Face Tax Increase

Danbury Mayor Roberto Alves proposes a new budget that would see a 4.76% increase in the tax rate for local taxpayers. This would bump the rate from 23.33 mills to 24.44 mills. The $311.65 million spending plan represents a $15.9 million increase over the current fiscal year’s budget. While the proposal increases funding for the city’s school system by over $10 million, it falls short of meeting the Board of Education’s $181.3 million budget request. The budget also allocates funds for public safety and emergency services.
