DEEP Strengthens Mosquito Warning

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, along with the state’s Mosquito Management Program, is ramping up warnings about the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV). EEE carrying mosquitos have been detected in growing areas of Connecticut, and the state also reported its first horse infected with EEE in Fairfield County. Mosquitoes carrying EEE and WNV have been found in towns statewide, and residents are urged to take precautions like using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and reducing outdoor activity at dawn and dusk.
