Low Helicopter Over Candlewood Lake Sparks FAA Investigation

The FAA is now investigating whether a helicopter pilot flew too low over Candlewood Lake, raising safety concerns. The probe follows complaints that Avi Shevah, flying a Robinson R-22, hovered dangerously close to boats over the past six weeks. Danbury Municipal Airport Administrator Michael Safranek, who filed the complaint, said Shevah’s low-altitude flights violated federal aviation rules. Shevah, a longtime pilot, denies the claims, saying he was flying safely and that boats approached him. The FAA will determine whether the flights broke regulations.
